CIRTL Forum
June 16-17, 2008
Madison, WI

Are graduate students receiving the training they need to succeed in a variety of academic environments? Are graduate universities and other higher education institutions aligned in their expectations of graduating doctoral students? What role can future faculty programs play in addressing the need for skilled graduates?

The CIRTL Forum will focus on aligning the preparation of graduate students for faculty careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The goals of the CIRTL Forum 2008 are:

  • To explore the degree of alignment of STEM faculty experiences from graduate school through early career faculty positions;
  • To enhance mutual awareness and alignment of key stakeholder groups – graduate students, graduate universities, academic employers and graduate faculty
  • To highlight the new generation of graduate students and early career faculty prepared by future faculty programs

This Forum will bring together STEM faculty and leaders from all types of academic institutions to meet with graduate deans and future faculty to achieve these goals.

Who should attend?

  • Graduate deans and STEM faculty working to enhance the preparation of STEM graduate students pursuing faculty careers.
  • Academic employers seeking to influence the preparation of future STEM faculty across the nation.
  • Graduate students who are on the road to academic positions as STEM faculty and who are engaged in teaching-as-research; scholarship of teaching and learning; or new approaches to enhancing undergraduate student learning in STEM.
Take this opportunity to showcase your graduate student and early-career faculty development programs. Attend the Forum and build national connections that will support the advancement of your programs and your future faculty. Meet a new generation of graduate students prepared to excel in both research and teaching.
