To use the site's chat feature you will first need to be logged in. To do this click the Login/Register link in the upper right corner. 

Next, locate the Chat block on the right side of the page. There you will find a list of users currently logged in.

Select the person with whom you would like to chat by clicking on his or her name.

Enter your message into the window that pops up in the lower right-hand corner of the page. Tap the "Enter" key to send.

You can chat from any page on the site!

Troubleshooting:

Sorry, does not work with Internet Explorer 7 or older! Please try another browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Opera, or upgrade your version of Internet Explorer.

If you are signed in to the website and you see that your name is incorrect in the "who's online" block, you can easily update this under "My Account" -> "Edit" tab -> "Personal Information" tab -> "First name" and "Last name" fields.

If you see your name on the list twice and/or are having trouble receiving messages, this is usually due to having multiple browser windows and/or tabs open to CIRTL's website at the same time. Here are the steps you should follow to restart your online chat:

1. Log out of CIRTL's website.

2. Close all windows and/or tabs that are open to the CIRTL website.

3. Open up a new window or tab to the CIRTL website.

4. Log-in again.

5. Try to chat with someone by clicking on their name.
