Diversity in STEM Teaching and Learning

In Pursuit of a Diverse Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Workforce: Recommended Research Priorities to Enhance Participation by Underrepresented Minorities
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
After examining over 150 research efforts on underrepresented minorities in STEM, the authors of this study identified three research priorities: 1) improvements in methodology, 2) improvements in research linkages, and 3) exploration of new research areas. Continued collection of critical data and additional research on the factors that facilitate or limit student progression towards doctoral degrees and faculty positions are also needed.

CAST offers resources for preK-16 educators and administrators to improve education for all students, including those with disabilities, by using technology to make education more flexible and accessible. “Universal Design for Learning”, developed by CAST researchers, is an approach to teaching, learning, and assessment that can help those who are marginalized in traditional classrooms.

The Nelson Diversity Surveys provide data on the academic rank and representation of women and minorities in STEM fields at the top fifty research universities in the United States.

Standing Our Ground: A Guidebook for STEM Educators in the Post Michigan Era
