May 20th Network Expansion Information Session - Questions and Answers
On May 20th, 2011 the CIRTL Network hosted an online Q&A informational session for institutions interested in applying for membership in the expanded CIRTL Network. Many of the questions from the May 20th session appear below.
To hear the answers to these questions you may view the recorded meeting by clicking here (question and answer begins at ~25:00 minute mark). Please contact Kitch Barnicle (608-262-9174, kabarnicle@wisc.edu) if you have additional questions.
If you have a question that is not listed here, on the April 15 Q&A page, or the Expansion FAQ page you may submit it here.
.) How have student participation levels been defined?
.) Would you like us to submit letters of support with the proposal?
.) Do you need project budgets?
.) The numbers of students each current school reports on the expansion page greatly vary. Is there a reasonable number of students you expect each institution to reach?
.) Is the network looking for any specific forms of institutional support?
.) Would there be any funding commitments expected before the NSF proposal is submitted?
.) At what level of specificity should application address assessment and evaluation. Do you have tools on line?
.) Question 6 on the application asks about involvement in other national programs. What if the institution has not been engaged? Do we describe other local programs that have features of national programs? Will this impact competitiveness for consideration?
.) What are examples of the *types* of activities that suggest institutional commitment on the part of the co-leaders?
.) Is Co-leader (administrating day-to-day activities) necessarily a faculty member, or could this be a staff position?
.) Is this application considered an NSF subcontract at this point? We are trying to figure out how to route this through our research administration office.
.) Is there an average size to one's CIRTL team?
.) In your experience, what are typical time demands on core faculty?
.) "Regular meetings" was just mentioned. What have you found to be an optimal schedule for these regular meetings?
.) When you say "first year" in the application questions, are you referring to the unfunded year beginning this October, or are you referring to the first (likely) funded year?
.) Is CIRTL still planning on having Network Forum meetings every 2 years?
.) Where CIRTL is housed: What in your experience works well? A department, the graduate school?
