Call for HHMI Professors

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute is searching for up to 15 leading scientist-educators with great ideas for transforming science education. As new HHMI professors, each of the scientists will receive $1 million over five years to create activities that integrate their research with student learning in ways that enhance undergraduate students’ understanding of science. In a March 2013 article in Nature, Chad Knights, a former post-doc at Georgetown University, shares a life-changing experience that came about when he began teaching science at a community college near Washington D.C. Teaching was never a clear option for Knights, but once he began teaching at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria he found the position profoundly rewarding. Read More »
