 Spotlights on Network Institutions

The overarching goal of CIRTL is to increase the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning of all undergraduate students, and thereby contribute to increasing the number and diversity of those working in STEM fields and the STEM literacy of the nation. As such, the CIRTL Network is comprised of 25 research universities, private/public; large/moderate size; majority-/minority-serving. The diversity of these institutions and the geographical locations are by design aligned with CIRTL's mission and goals.

Ultimately, the strategic leverage point through which CIRTL can shape the future of STEM undergraduate education is graduate education at research universities. These institutions can and will prepare STEM graduate students to be both forefront researchers and excellent teachers.

A collaborative network of 25 research universities is a remarkable opportunity to advance the nation’s preparation of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in teaching and learning. Building on the strengths of each institution, we intend to create CIRTL learning communities both, local to each university and across the CIRTL Network. Looking to the future, CIRTL will also build and study organizational and operational structures that will be scalable to even larger numbers of universities, positioning the CIRTL Network for major impact on the nation’s future STEM faculty.
