Bob Mathieu to Provide Testimony on STEM Education to Congressional Subcommittee
The hearing is entitled Strengthening Undergraduate and Graduate STEM Education and will examine the current state of STEM education and consider ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of that education. In particular the subcommittee will be examining characteristics, fundamental skills and critical content that defines high quality STEM education as well as barriers to implementing STEM education reform. They will consider the kinds of pedagogical and content training necessary for graduates entering the workforce within and outside of academia. Finally they will look at the National Science Foundation's role in improving STEM education and consider current and future trajectories of NSF STEM education programs.
Additional testimony will be provided by Dr. Joan Ferrini-Mundy, Acting Assistant Director, Directorate for Education and Human Resources, National Science Foundation; Mr. Rick Stephens, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Administration, The Boeing Company; Dr. Noah Finkelstein, Associate Professor of Physics, University of Colorado, Boulder; and Dr. Karen Klomparens, Dean and Associate Provost for Graduate Education, Michigan State University.
