AbstractThe Wisconsin Program for Scientific Teaching (WPST) and the Center for Scientific Teaching (CST) are together leading efforts to advance teaching and learning in the sciences. Born at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the WPST has successfully been replicated at Yale University (as the CST), and the two universities continue to partner on initiatives and evaluation. This poster will describe one of the most recent projects, the Scientific Teaching Postdoc Program, which integrates fully with two long-standing scientific teaching initiatives, the HHMI Teaching Fellows Program and the National Academies Summer Institutes on Undergraduate Education in Biology. Furthermore, the poster will highlight key findings from this unique postdoctoral program and explain how it affords postdoctoral trainees the opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience about scientific teaching and its cornerstones (active learning, assessment, and diversity), while becoming part of a national community of education reform.
