CIRTL Spotlights: Northwestern University

Northwestern University benefits from robust cooperation among faculty, teaching and learning specialists, and administrators to support the development of teaching and learning practices in the STEM disciplines. The university has a number of research centers, teaching and learning programs, and other initiatives that target the professional development of future STEM faculty.  A few examples are provided below.

CIRTL Spotlights: Boston University

The next institution on our CIRTL Spotlights series is Boston University (BU), one of twenty-five institutions that makeup the CIRTL Network.

We cast our light on BU to showcase several centers of STEM research and education that match CIRTL pillars and mission. Among them is the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching (CEIT) which encompasses all schools and colleges within the university and is charged broadly with promoting and supporting innovative and exemplary teaching and facilitating continued professional development of faculty as teachers. CIRTL Spotlights: Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University, often cited as the first modern graduate research university in America, firmly believes that teaching and research complement and strengthen one another. Johns Hopkins University began awarding PhD degree’s in STEM areas in 1878; today it produces one the largest cohorts of PhDs each year of any private university in the country. In 2010, Johns Hopkins awarded 363 PhDs in STEM disciplines. Read More »
